Dr. Kristensen is involved in the development and deployment of next generation collaborative arenas, with the aim of improving collaborative performance in dispersed teams. Dr. Kristensen is the main architect behind the Physual Designing concept, which is gaining momentum as a platform for understanding key dimensions of effective collaborative working environments supporting heterogeneous, dispersed teams. This concept is a hybrid framework that integrates physical arenas and virtual tools for collaboration with visual working methods in a holistic collaborative environment that supports visualisation through the use of large, interactive displays. The Physual Designing concept suggests that smart combinations of physical and virtual workspaces in a visual environment ensure a good balance between the quality of interaction and flexibility in terms of supported contexts (mobile and fixed), interaction (planned and on-demand) and organisation (internal or external competencies).
