[edit] Openness
The Transversal themese are open to the organisations and individuals that are active in this domain. You are kindly invited to contribute to the editing of this wiki page in providing the necessary information about the resources and/or services you would like to share among the members of this Transversal Theme Network.
[edit] Scope
Service sciences and design discipline in service innovation The connection of Living Labs and Design communities will favour innovation through joint approach toward non-technological innovation, putting the human being (users) at the heart of the concerns. Although some industries and service providers in Europe already understand design as a strategic innovation tool, the majority of them still consider design as an aesthetic attachment to their product. “Design for All” as well as social and service design, seem to be even less understood.
[edit] Challenges
- Interoperability of Design and Engineering, Technological and NON Technological systems
- Multidisciplinary Concurrency
- Key indicators assessing Design impact
- Understanding demographic and cultural trends
- Infusing creativity and art into service innovation processes
- Technology in service innovation
- Service design tools and techniques
[edit] Objectives
- To have a shared community for Living Labs, Design and Service Organizations
- To develop the concept of an integrated "Concurrent Service Design and Engineering Facility"
- Integrate design disciplines into Living Lab’s approaches, create a common language and build a joint vision on user-centred innovation.
- Develop new methodologies thanks to interdisciplinary approaches (design, technology, sociology...), to be tested and improved thanks to experimentation with companies and users
- Demonstrate the added value of design and human-centred approaches in innovation processes through experimentation with Living Labs and clusters and assess outcomes through objective criteria.
[edit] Resources
Here is below the place to describe the list of Resources and Services that could be shared among members of these transversal themes (access grant to be discussed case by case or project by project like in any Research Infrastructure). For each Living Lab, Deisgn, Service Science Organization the list of resources and services should be described in the following way: the first entry should be the name of your Organization and the link to your website followed by your list of resources and services as presented below in a generic way. For example, resources could be specific infrastructures, technology platforms (testbeds), tools, methods and techniques. Services could be scientific services such as conducting an empirical study with your local user communities within your own cultural environment (these kind of services could be used by other regional Living Labs and SMEs in order to better address the Socieetal Challenges of our time and the global market):
Creative City Living Lab "TRANSVERSAL CRITICAL THEMES FOR LIVING LABS" Workshop: “SERVICE SCIENCES AND DESIGN DISCIPLINE IN SERVICE INNOVATION”.
The workshop will take place in Cité du design in Saint-Étienne the 7th of February 2011, as part of France’s first dedicated to design business convention. You can use the opportunity of this journey to meet designers and other partners (by taking appointments on the website http://designmap.crossmeetings.com), and to attend all other conferences and professional events.
The workshop will consist in 10 minutes presentations followed by exchanges with the other participants in order to share experience and build new projects!
If you are interested to present your experience (that includes a design approach), or present a project (which could benefit from design competencies) or would you like to take part in the workshop you can address to: Isabelle.VERILHAC@citedudesign.com
Service Design and Innovation Conference The first Service Design and Service Innovation Conference investigated the legacy brought from other design disciplines as well as exploring new fields. Second year's theme was ‘ExChanging Knowledge’. This year’s theme is ‘Co-creating services’. ServDes invites contributions from researchers and practitioners that wish to contribute to the growing knowledge base of service design. Submission deadline: October 31 2011.

related
to
the
European Design Innovation Initiative. The main objective of the IDeALL project is to
Share

across
Living
Labs
and Design Organizations to integrate design and user-centred innovation approaches into a new innovation process. Living Labs and Design Organizations are invite to express their interest in supporting
the IDEaLL project dissemination and consensus building activities. Supporting Partners have the possibility of participating in demonstration and validation activites (pilots) eventually promoted by the IDEaLL network, providing feedback on the proposed approach;

Cite Du Design LLAB The Cité du Design, created in 2005, is a platform of observation, creation, teaching, training and research through design. The Cité du Design and the Higher School of Art and Design of Saint-Étienne (formerly the Regional School of Fine Arts) are grouped together in the same structure with a common objective; to develop research and innovation through creation.
Resources and services that the DCC-LL would share:
- A network of creative cities:
Saint-Etienne, UNESCO City of design, member of the creative cities network. In 2010 Saint-Etienne became a member of the UNESCO creative cities network, as the second European city after Berlin, and alongside Buenos Aires, Montreal, Nagoya, Kobe, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Seoul and Graz. This network seeks to highlight the work of creative poles and to share the know-how, experiences and skills held in particular by the territorial authorities and local actors. design map is therefore part of a territorial dynamic for cultural enterprise development, and targets its capacity to develop a creative economy.
- A network of design centers:
The Cité du design is a partner of several international networks ELIA, CUMULUS, EIDD, BEDA, and participate to European programs (DME, Human Cities, etc.)
- The Design Research Department
The Cité du design approach to research into design is unique in France, aimed at innovating SME, major companies or enterprise clusters and poles of competitiveness. Detached from market contingencies, this approach imagines the life styles of tomorrow to invent contemporary solutions to a certain number of pending questions.
- The LUPI® (Innovative Practices and Uses Lab)
is a tool of development, co-creation of new products, services or systems from uses scenarios which comes to enrich the Living Lab piloted by the Economic Department of the Cité du Design. This innovative process of co-conception is particularly adapted to the small and medium sized industries. It is organized with collaborative workshops of creativity and analysis, which associate industrials, designers and users. From the observation of the users’ practices, using the design tools and supervised by professional designers, the LUPI® allows to make new products emerge. The LUPI® is also proposed in a collaborative way and it obtained the financial support of the Rhône-Alpes region and of the State as a collective action to develop innovation and competitiveness of the enterprises through design.
- A materials resource centre (library of materials)
is dedicated to the presentation, information, advice, and research on materials. As a lively, state-of-the-art space, the materials resource centre really is a resource, inspiration, and innovation centre for designers, manufacturers, researchers, and students from varied backgrounds (Design, Art, Engineering, Architecture, etc.) The materials resource centre consists of three main lines: materials designed by Rhône-Alpes-based know-how; eco-design-friendly materials; materials related to new technologies.
Design for ALL The Design for All community regroups design professionals and experts, applying design approach to social topics, addressing and integrating human diversity, social cohesion and equality beyond differences (culture, age, ability, social background...). Design for All objective is to give everyone the access to everything, equally and without necessary adaptation.
