Call for Papers – Special Issue - Service Science (Service Sciences, Management and Engineering)

Edited by Prof. Lorna Uden, Prof. Chi Hung Chi and Prof. Marjan Hericko

The service sector is the dominant economic activity in our world today. The rapid growth of services in our knowledge economy has vast implications for knowledge creation, education, business practice, and government policy. Research in service science seeks to find out how to design, build, operate, use, sustain and dispose of service systems for the benefit of multiple stakeholders such as customers, shareholders, employees, partners and society. Service activities are typically very broad (business, communication, education, finance, government, health and transportation, and others). This special issue is devoted to service science research and applications. Authors are invited to submit manuscripts in the following areas:

  • Theoretical underpinnings to service science,
  • Service management and operation
  • Service models
  • Knowledge management and service innovation
  • E-Services
  • Service innovation
  • Service-oriented systems
  • Service federation and governance
  • Service oriented business models
  • Service design principles and methodologies
  • Mobile service computing
  • Service reference architecture and models
  • Service marketing and supply chain
  • Service delivery
  • Service computing
  • Service Quality
  • Web based collaborative systems
  • User-centric service engineering
  • Service-based grid/utility/autonomic computing
  • Service economy
  • Service ecosystems
  • Service-based grid/utility/autonomic computing
  • Social, cultural and organizational issues
  • Trust, legal certainty and liability
  • Education on service science
  • R&D
  • Case studies in service-centric business and applications
  • Industry service solution patterns

Papers addressing theoretical foundations as well practical implications of service science are welcome. The list of topics is not restricted to the above mentioned areas. Authors must state that their papers have neither been published before nor currently submitted elsewhere. Full papers should not be longer than 20 pages single spaced pages, including tables and figures. Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract to confirm the suitability of their papers to one of the editors if in doubt.

  • Submission of paper: November, 30th, 2008
  • Notification of acceptance: February, 28th, 2008
  • Camera ready manuscripts: May 5th, 2008

The cover page should contain: the paper title, and the name, affiliation, address, phone number, fax number and email of each author; which subject/theme of the journal the subject fits; why the material is important in this field and why it should be published in this journal.

2. The second page should start with the paper title at the top and immediately followed by the abstract of 100-150 words, including keywords. Except on the cover page, the author’s names and affiliation MUST NOT appear in the manuscript. The abstract should clearly summarise the objectives and content of the manuscript.

3. Nomination of up to four recognised experts who would be considered to review the submission. Please state name, address and e-mail address of these proposed reviewers and your relationship with each of them. The manuscripts must contain original unpublished work, which is not being submitted for publishing elsewhere. Inappropriate submissions will be returned to authors.
